Soursop – Graviola – Aluguntugui Fruit (Annona muricata), also known as guanabana, is a small evergreen tree with many bioactive compounds, that is native to the Africans, Amazon Rainforest, and other tropical areas of the Americas. It produces a large, heart-shaped edible fruit which is yellow-green in color, with white flesh.
The outer look of the soursop fruit, smooth and thorny, appears to give an indication of the taste of its fleshy white and seedy inner part that is sweet and sour.

Soursop contains a number of natural substances that have biological activity, according to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. These include fatty compounds, called Annonacin, along with other compounds Quinolones, Annopentocins, two Alkaloids, Coreximine, and reticuline. Soursop’s acetogenins are the compounds known for their potential to prevent or slow the growth of cancer. The Cancer Center also says that some compounds in soursop may be naturally antiviral and antiparasitic, and may also suppress inflammation.
