Soursop  Graviola  Aluguntugui Fruit

Known as Aluguntugui, Graviola, Aborofontungu, Evo, Guyabano, Mtomoko, Guanavana

Soursop – Graviola – Aluguntugui Fruit (Annona muricata), also known as guanabana, is a small evergreen tree with many bioactive compounds, that is native to the Africans, Amazon Rainforest, and other tropical areas of the Americas. It produces a large, heart-shaped edible fruit which is yellow-green in color, with white flesh.

The outer look of the soursop fruit, smooth and thorny, appears to give an indication of the taste of its fleshy white and seedy inner part that is sweet and sour.

A popular song by  Keche “Aluguntugui” which says that “ life tastes like Aluguntugui”  and some claims that the fruit’s ability to cure and prevent the dreaded cancer disease seems to have brought a considerable spotlight on it.

The juice is a popular drink known as Guanában in Brazil. The most effective means of boosting your immune system

It’s only recently become popular in the West, Graviola has a long history in ancient herbal remedies and treatments, with the leaf, stem, root, bark, and seed all being used traditionally. Since ancient times, it has become known that Graviola is rich in vitamins and minerals, all of which contribute to the health benefits it provides

Herbal medicine Practitioners recommend the fruit and leaves of the Graviola tree to relieve stomach distress, fever, pain, and respiratory problems.

Soursop contains a number of natural substances that have biological activity, according to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. These include fatty compounds, called Annonacin, along with other compounds Quinolones, Annopentocins, two Alkaloids, Coreximine, and reticuline. Soursop’s acetogenins are the compounds known for their potential to prevent or slow the growth of cancer. The Cancer Center also says that some compounds in soursop may be naturally antiviral and antiparasitic, and may also suppress inflammation.

How To Use

1. Soursop Smoothie
A creamy delicious smoothie will help to satisfy your hunger

Wash under warm water to remove any dirt from the bumps on the skin. Then peel the skin and cut the entire fruit in half to remove the stem.
Place the pulp in a large bowl and break it up by hand to remove the seeds. Be careful and make sure you remove all the seeds as they are potentially toxic.

Then add the ingredients into a blender with some pineapple, cubed coconut, and fresh spinach. Add some almond or coconut milk for the liquid, and blend until smooth. Additionally, you can add a chunk of ginger or even some protein powder.

2. Heat the Soursop
You do not even have to know a fancy recipe to enjoy soursop. Just like jackfruit, soursop can be roasted to enjoy like a vegetable.

Place the chunks of soursop in an oven and roast at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and cook for about 20 to 30 minutes until it is extra soft. You can also grill the soursop on a BBQ.

Optionally, add spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, or even honey to add some extra flavor to the soursop.
